Argentina – Week 3

This week was amazing! We had a reunion with our President on Monday for zone conference, and a meeting with our Priesdient, Elder Zeballos, (seventy), Elder Patiña (area seventy), and Elder D. Todd Christofferson and his wife on Saturday. We all shook hands with them, then heard about the story of Elder Zeballos. He got baptized when he was 12 years old, and years later served as mission president when the missionary who baptized him was serving as an area seventy over his mission, later they served together as mission presidents, and then in the first quorom of the serventy. He had the opportunity to seal his son in the temple and the missionary that baptized him was in attendance. He talked about real growth, and how we need to do all we can to teach in a manner that the people we teach attain real conversion unto the Lord, and come to know and love their Savior Jesus Christ. Elder Christofferson answered questions we had (he speaks the best spanish I have heard yet from a north american, he served his mission in northern Argentina with Richard G. Scott as his mission president). I felt powerfully during that meeting that this work is truly centered on the Lord Jesus Christ and His love and Atoning sacrifice for us. I decided that I need to ponder and pray about the things I need to do in my mission and in my life to consecrate all I have to the Lord and lay everything on the altar of sacrifice. I know that my Redeemer lives, and he is the reason for this work. All the petty matierial things of this world will fall away in the end, but his Atonement is truly infinite and eternal, and because of this we can live the eternal life with our Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ, and our families.

As for the work here, it´s hard sometimes to find the people who are ready to listen. My companion and I have been thinking and praying a lot to be able to find those who are humble enough to listen, because it´s pretty easy to clap doors, but its very hard to find the people who are prepared that way. We´re going to start teaching english, and on Sunday we had a Sacrament meeting dedicated to the work misional, I gave a talk and another Elder serving in the branch, aswell as a return missionary and the branch president and all the missionaries and returned missionarys sang brightly beams our fathers mercy. After, we gave things to all the members to give to their friends to invite them to come to the chapel to learn more about our message. Our branch president is awesome, he is one hundred percent dedicated to the work of salvation and working together to rescue those who have fallen away and find those who are ready to learn more. Norma came to church again yesterday! The smile on her face and light in her eyes grow every time we teach her, she reads, and she comes to church. I testify that this gospel truly is the manner in which we can have the pure joy we all desire. It is truly incredible to see the way it changes the lives of those we teach. I testify that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is the kingdom of God once again restored to the earth, and that the Book of Mormon is in reality the word of God. I testify that there is a living prophet who guides and directs us back to our father in heaven. I know that familias can be eternal. Missions are the best! Les quiero! Hurrah for Isreal!

Love,
Elder Hoffman
