Argentina – Week 16

Querida Familia,

Dear Family,

This was an incredible week! There isn´t any way to describe the joy that comes with being able to see somebody´s life changing. We hage a huge miracle this week! It´s been a little hard for us because Elder González has treatment Monday through Friday at 8, and three times a week it starts at 7, and since we leave the office at 5 we haven´t had much time to proselyte. In spite of that, we´ve tried working as hard as we can the few moments we have to work in our area, and the Lord has blessed us. We were really worried because Oscar has his baptism on Saturday, and he was slowing down on the cigarretes until Thursday, when he rebounded to 16 cigarretes. We were praying like crazy to know how to be able to help him, and we passed by to have a lesson with him but he gets distracted really easily and talks A LOT about anything except the subject at hand. He´s alone almost all day, and because of that he has a lot to say when he gets the chance. He reminds me of the grandpa in UP, but smaller and more funny and his mouth never stops talking. Anyway, we didn´t have much time and so we hadn´t taught hardly anything, but we finished by testifying of the power of the atonement of Christ, telling him that we trusted and loved him, and testifying that he was going to able to leave his addiction behind. Sometimes my castellano gets a little mixed up, by the times when we really have the Spirit with us, the words just come. It was one of those moments as Elder González and I testified about the love of God and the truthfulness of His gospel and His church. Before we left, he told us that we wasn´t going to buy any more cigarrettes to be able to leave his addiction behind. The next day, we called him at mid day and he hadn´t smoked (normally he´s at 5 or 6 already at noon). We we´re super excited, and that night we felt like we had to call him before we hit the hay. He didn´t answer, but five minutes later he called back and told us that he hadn´t smoke a single cigarrette all day, and that we would see him at the baptism of another man from a different ward the next day. It was incredible! I never thought it was posible to feel so much joy and love for the progress and repentance of someone I had only known for four or five weeks. He still hasn´t smoked and he´s excited and ready for his baptism this Saturday! I know the Savior always has us accounted for, that he rejoices in our triumphs and and loves us. I realized that the Savior loves us the way I love Oscar, only that he loves everyone of us, and his love is much greater and eternal. I know that Christ lives and his atonement is infinite. I know that His church has been restored and that we have the fulness of His gospel in our hands again. I know that God is our father in heaven and that he has a plan for this us in this life, and that there is a reason for everything we pass through in this life. I know that people can always change through and by the power of the Atonement of Christ. I love you all millions! Sorry I can never write much and I haven´t been able to respond at all, the time is awfully short. Until next week!

Un abrazo fuerte,
Elder Hoffman
