Argentina – Week 17

Querido Familia,

Dear Family,

As the weather warms up back there in the states, it´s thankfully cooling down here in Argentina! It feels a little bit like autumn sometimes now, it makes it a lot more bearable to be outside. We´ve also had some huge rainstorms this week, which has been pretty awesome. Right now we´re in the middle of the transfer, so we got a new asistente to the Presidente, Elder Pliler from Alpine Utah. He´s a great missionary, and I´m super excited to have him here in the office. Elder Parkes heads off to home tomorrow, which is super weird! He came to the office when I came to Argentina, and he´s finished his misión now. Also, Elder Fernández is here to finish his misión as well! It was super great to see him again, sad to see my first companion here in Argentina heading home.

This week was very good! It is still difficult because we do not have much time to work in our area, but this week we had many miracles alike. The week has strengthened my testimony of the power of prayer so much. In the beginning of the week, we were teaching “The game plan of the Lord” (the talk by S. Gifford Nelson) to the families of the ward and inviting them to pray for us and most of all for the people that we are teaching. They began to do so, and we suddenly saw many miracles with people who we had put on paper so that they could pray for them. We found Mariela, a contact we made a few weeks ago who was very friendly and open. She agreed to a baptismal date and accepted all of the things we taught very well. We were also able to find other people on the lists we had given to the members of the church to pray for for the first time in a few weeks, and most importantly is that Oscar was able to have the strength to reach his baptism, even with the tithing that he did not want to pay at first and the smoking he didn´t believe he could overcome. Words cannot express the joy I felt when I hugged Oscar and there was no smell of cigarettes, and when he asked me yesterday how to fill out a tithing slip. Most of all, the feeling I had when I was able to baptize him was amazing. I felt so strongly the love that Christ has for this man, and felt the Holy Spirit so strongly witness that the church of Jesus Christ has been restored by a prophet of God. To have seen the great changes in the life of Oscar and his countenance was an incredible journey, and the only thing I want is for him to continue steadfast in the gospel and the opportunity to meet face to face with him in the kingdom of God after this life. I want to continue to help many more people find happiness Oscar found that through the gospel of Jesus Christ. I love my mission, the scriptures, and every experience I’ve had here. I can testify that this is the work of God. I love you all millions family! I love every letter, email, and picture I get, keep em coming! I think I´ve gotten every letter yall have sent, it´s just the packages that have trouble coming through. Ya never know, we´re still receiving packages in the office that were sent in October and November for Christmas, maybe mine will come before I finish my misión. (; Por amor a Sión, no callaré!

Un abrazo fuerte,

Elder Hoffman

P.S. – The lady dressed in White is Martha, the sister missionaries from the other Ward that meets in our building were teaching here. We had a super awesome doublé baptism!
