Argentina – Week 55

Elder Bellido and I in the Cibercafé
DSC02174

Querida Familia,

Elder Hoffman

Dear Family,

This week, our zone was working in every area of the zone, so we were all over the place and it was very crazy but very good. We found a lot of great people, and I am excited to hear the stories of all the seeds we planted. It was also terrific to do divisions with Elder Cesar an elder from our zone from Mexico, because I was able to talk to him about Necochea Centro, where I started my time here in Argentina. He was there three months after I, and was there about 6 months. I always felt a little sad that I had only had a single baptism there, but to talk to Elder Cesar, I realized that my efforts were not in vain at all. From some kids who were playing in the grass of the church, miracles emerged. We had invited them there in Necochea my penultimate week to church and told them to come with their families to the chapel on Sunday. The truth is I did not think they were going to show up, but they appeared in church on Sunday. We went and talked to the families, but it seemed that our small miracle was not going to bear fruit at all, because the families did not have much interest. Many months passed, and about 8-9 months after I had gone away, 5-6 people (2 different family’s) were baptized because of that small beginning and the work of many missionaries over the course of several months. I realized as I was talking with Elder Cesar that oftentimes we want the “glory” for ourselves to be able to say that we were able to have a lot of external success, when the real glory belongs to God, and that this is His work, and He knows His children. Our success is always a result of the work of many people and from the hand of God. It does not mean that we do not have to work to harvest, it is true that the field is white already to harvest. I came to baptize and confirm, but to do it and thrust in my sickle with all my heart, soul, mind, and strength, one ends up not only reaping but planting many seeds for the future. Also I saw when I talked to Elder Carhuaz, the new pensionero in the mission office about the missionary apartments from our zone, and told me that they had recently baptized the friend of Yamalí that I had taught with Elder González. The results always working, both today and in the future. This is the work of the Lord, I know with all my heart. I love this work, I hope to work with all my being in the work of salvation for all my life.

I love you all family! Keep on opening your mouths to share the wonderful things that you know and have been blessed with.

Un abrazote,
Elder Hoffman

p.s. I forgot to let you all know about Juan! He had an amazing experience this week, he prayed and felt an answer! He has such a huge desire to be baptized, but his mom still doesn´t want to let him. He came to the conference on Sunday, and he loved it. I´m teaching him to play piano as we teach him the lessons, it´s amazing to see the changes in him as he learns about the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He goes to seminary and the activities on Wednesdays and to church every Sunday. He´s a champion, but keep praying that his mom will give him permission to be baptized, he wants it so badly… Love you all a ton, I´ll send more pictures next week.
